Laser Based Systems for Defence, Surveillance & Threat Detection

System Controls designs and supplies a comprehensive range of laser based systems spanning precision pointing and scanning to standoff chemical and explosive detection.

These are organised across two capability domains. The first covers laser pointing, precision scanning and imaging systems for surveillance, tracking and field reconnaissance. The second covers laser-based chemical and explosive detection systems for security screening at defence perimeters, border posts and critical infrastructure sites.

Both categories are built on the same engineering foundation: zero backlash precision drive mechanisms, closed loop servo control, ruggedised opto-mechanical assemblies and embedded processing for real-time target identification and data acquisition.

Laser Pointing and Imaging Systems

Systems in this category provide precision laser beam direction, large area ground scanning and compact laser-gated imaging for field surveillance and target identification applications.

Laser Based Detection Systems

Systems in this category use Raman spectroscopy to identify explosives, hazardous chemicals and concealed substances from a safe distance, without physical contact or container penetration.

System Controls brings over 35 years of defence and aerospace domain experience to the design, development and integration of laser based systems. Every system in this range is built on precision opto-mechanical engineering, validated drive and servo technology, and ruggedised packaging suited to field deployment in demanding environments. As a production agency operating under DRDO and ISRO Transfer of Technology agreements, and a trusted supplier to HAL and India's leading defence research establishments, System Controls understands the qualification, reliability and support requirements that define defence procurement in India.

Conventional Raman spectroscopy can only analyse surface materials and cannot detect substances inside opaque containers. SORS collects the signal from a spatially offset point, enabling detection through coloured glass, HDPE and teflon containers without opening or damaging them. It is the preferred technique for security screening at airports and critical sites.

Yes. The Laser Imaging System operates in both bright daylight and moonless, highly overcast night conditions down to illumination levels of 10-3 to 10-4 lux, using an InGaAs FPA sensor and narrow band interference filters optimised for day and night performance.

The LIDAR system supports three configurable scanning patterns: raster, circular and spiral. It also has five operational modes including search, detection, concentration measurement, home and slew, making it adaptable to different surveillance and mapping mission profiles.

Yes. The HHEI is a fully portable, self-contained system weighing approximately 4.5 kg. It requires no external power or laboratory infrastructure and delivers explosive identification in under 10 seconds, making it suitable for deployment by security personnel at border posts, checkpoints and event security operations.

The LIDAR Precision Scanning Assembly complies with JSS 55555 environmental standards and MIL-STD-461C for EMI/EMC. The LPS is designed to meet IP54 ingress protection. All systems are designed and validated to defence-grade environmental and electromagnetic compatibility requirements.

The LIS provides target ranging from 50m to 1,800m with an accuracy of ±5m. Target coordinate computation delivers angular accuracy better than ±8 mrad with GPS accuracy of 10m or less, enabling precise target localisation in field surveillance operations.

The SORS probe is available in two configurations: 532 nm and 785 nm laser wavelengths, with receiving wavelength ranges of 530-635 nm and 780-1050 nm respectively. Both configurations use motorized, software-controlled offset adjustment across a ring radius of 0.5 mm to 20 mm.

A standoff explosive detection system illuminates a target with a laser and analyses the backscattered light using Raman spectroscopy. The unique spectral signature of each substance is matched against an onboard library. System Controls HHEI delivers identification of 50 explosives and precursors in under 10 seconds from a safe standoff distance.
