Multifunctional Unmanned Ground Vehicle MUGV
Indigenous Make in India UGV for Defence Surveillance, Staircase Climbing and Search and Rescue
The MUGV Multifunctional Unmanned Ground Vehicle is an indigenous Make in India unmanned ground vehicle designed and developed by System Controls for defence surveillance, staircase climbing and search and rescue operations. Carrying up to 70 kg of payload on a compact 25 kg tracked platform, the MUGV operates via wireless remote control within a 100 metre radius without requiring an onboard operator. Two dedicated movement modes, horizontal movement for flat terrain and 360° continuous flipper movement for stair climbing up to 35° gradient, powered by three 24V DC / 9 Ah batteries, make it deployable across the full range of urban, indoor and field environments encountered in defence and security operations.
What is MUGV?
The MUGV is a stand-alone unmanned ground vehicle and is operated wirelessly within a 100 metre radius. It carries up to 70 kg of payload on a 25 kg tracked platform with two distinct movement modes. Horizontal movement provides continuous tracked movement on flat surfaces at 76.15 rpm output with a gear ratio of 91 and 11.6 Nm output torque at 75% efficiency. Flipper movement provides 360° continuous flipper rotation at 44.42 rpm with a gear ratio of 156 and 19.89 Nm output torque at 75% efficiency, enabling climbing and descending of stairs up to a maximum 35° gradient. Three 24V DC / 9 Ah batteries provide the power supply. The MUGV is an indigenous System Controls development, designed, developed and manufactured in India at the Hi-Tech Defence and Aerospace Industrial Area, Bengaluru.

Indigenous Make in India Development
The MUGV is an indigenous System Controls development, designed, developed and manufactured entirely in India at the Hi-Tech Defence and Aerospace Industrial Area, Hoskote, Bengaluru. As one of System Controls' two confirmed indigenous robotic platforms, the MUGV embodies the Make in India commitment to domestic defence technology development, providing Indian defence and security forces with a locally sourced, locally supported unmanned ground vehicle capability.
70 kg Payload on a 25 kg Platform
The MUGV carries up to 70 kg of payload on a 25 kg tracked vehicle platform, a payload-to-weight ratio of nearly 3:1. This high payload capacity relative to vehicle weight enables the MUGV to carry substantial surveillance sensor packages, EO systems and communication equipment while remaining a compact and deployable platform for a wide range of defence and security mission configurations.
Staircase Climbing up to 35° Gradient
The flipper movement mode delivers 360° continuous flipper rotation at 44.42 rpm with 19.89 Nm output torque, enabling the MUGV to climb and descend stairs up to a maximum 35° gradient. This capability makes the MUGV directly deployable in urban search and rescue operations, multi-storey building surveillance and indoor security inspection scenarios where wheeled or flat-terrain vehicles cannot operate.
Wireless Remote Operation Without Onboard Operator
The MUGV operates via wireless remote control within a 100 metre radius without requiring any onboard operator, keeping personnel at a safe distance during surveillance and search and rescue operations in hazardous, contested or structurally compromised environments. Three 24V DC / 9 Ah batteries provide the onboard power supply for both movement modes and payload systems during remote operation.
