LED Landing Light 3L cd

High Output LED Helicopter Landing and Search Light with Visible and Covert IR Modes for Defence Aviation

The LED Landing Light 3L cd is a high output helicopter landing and search light designed, developed and manufactured by System Controls for low-speed airborne helicopter platforms. Delivering 300,000 cd peak visible output with a 14° H by 8° V beam angle and covert IR illumination at 790 to 920nm for NVG-assisted night operations, it deploys from 0° to 120° in 12 seconds maximum and rotates continuously through N x 360° in 15 seconds maximum. Precision rugged steel gear trains, DC motor drive and a highly reliable slip ring ensure consistent deployment and rotation performance throughout the operational life of the unit.

About the Product

What is the
LED Landing Light 3L cd?

The LED Landing Light 3L cd is the high output configuration of the System Controls LED Landing Light range, designed, developed and manufactured for low-speed airborne helicopter platforms. It delivers 300,000 cd peak visible output, matching the light output of the DFLL Dual Filament Landing Light in an LED light source configuration. Precision rugged steel gear trains housed in a compact package provide retraction, extension and rotation through DC motors and a highly reliable slip ring rated to withstand operational wind loads. Limit switches cut off and restore power as required across the deployment cycle. The light rotates continuously through 360° with visible or infrared illumination selected on in the extended position, with full illumination in both modes available across the +90° to -90° rotation arc. For platforms requiring the highest visible output in the LED Landing Light range, the 3L cd is the correct selection.

01

300,000 cd High Output LED Illumination

The LED Landing Light 3L cd delivers 300,000 cd peak visible output with a focused 14° horizontal by 8° vertical beam angle, providing the highest visible illumination output in the System Controls LED Landing Light range. This high intensity directed output is suited to helicopter platforms requiring maximum illumination performance during landing and search operations in reduced visibility conditions.

02

Rapid Two-Axis Motorised Deployment

The first axis deploys from 0° to 120° in 12 seconds maximum. The second axis rotates through N x 360° in 15 seconds maximum. Both axes are driven by DC motors through precision rugged steel gear trains with limit switches managing power cut-off and restoration at defined positions, providing motorised, repeatable deployment throughout the operational cycle.

03

Covert IR Mode for NVG Night Operations

Extension from 0° to 120° completes in 12 seconds maximum. Full N x 360° rotation completes in 15 seconds maximum. Both axes are driven by DC motors through precision rugged steel gear trains with limit switches managing power cut-off and restoration at defined positions throughout the deployment and rotation cycle.

04

Reliable Slip Ring for Wind Load Operation

A highly reliable slip ring rated to withstand operational wind loads maintains electrical continuity to the LED light source during continuous 360° rotation. This slip ring architecture ensures uninterrupted power and signal supply to the light assembly throughout the full rotation range regardless of wind loading conditions at operational helicopter platform speeds.
