Heavy Payload Two-Axis Positioner for Stationary Platform Antenna, EO and Sensor Installations

The Pan and Tilt Unit 30 kg is a precision two-axis surveillance positioner designed and supplied by System Controls for antenna, electro-optical and sensor payloads up to 30 kg on stationary hard platforms. Sealed to IP66 and compliant with MIL-STD-810F for vibration, bump and shock, it is rated for operation in winds up to 85 kmph across a temperature range of -20°C to +55°C.

About the Product

What is the
Pan & Tilt Unit 30 kg?

The Pan and Tilt Unit 30 kg is a robust, precision two-axis positioner in elevation over azimuth configuration, designed for mounting on stationary hard platforms and supporting antenna, electro-optical and sensor payloads up to 30 kg as top mount. Both azimuth and elevation axes use DC motors with precision gear mechanism under closed loop position control, delivering 0.05° accuracy and 0.01° resolution across their respective travel ranges. An integrated 24-channel slip ring provides continuous data link, video link and power supply to the payload during azimuth rotation.

Precision Closed Loop Control for Heavy Payloads

Both azimuth and elevation axes deliver 0.05° accuracy with 0.01° resolution under closed loop position control, at speeds from 0.01 to 5 RPM. This precision across a 30 kg top mount payload capacity makes the PTU suitable for heavy antenna arrays, multi-sensor electro-optical systems and large surveillance sensor assemblies on stationary defence and security platforms.

02

Compact Built-in Controller with Ethernet Interface

The built-in controller with Ethernet interface simplifies installation on stationary platforms by eliminating the need for a separate external control unit. This reduces the system footprint and cabling complexity on fixed installations while providing reliable network-connected control and monitoring for remote surveillance and tracking operations.

03

Integrated 24-Channel Slip Ring for Full Signal Continuity

The built-in 24-channel slip ring provides uninterrupted data link, video link and power supply continuity to the payload during azimuth rotation, eliminating the need for an external slip ring assembly. This simplifies system integration on stationary platforms and ensures reliable signal and power transmission to complex multi-channel payload configurations throughout continuous operation.

04

Three-Layer Safety Architecture

The PTU incorporates three independent layers of safety: software soft limits, electrical limits and mechanical limits. This layered approach protects both the payload and the unit across all operating modes including autonomous go-to point moves, joystick control and standby conditions, meeting the reliability and safety requirements of defence surveillance and tracking system integration.

Yes. An elevation brake is available as standard, holding the payload securely at any elevation position when stationary or in standby, protecting heavy payloads from uncontrolled movement in wind-exposed environments.

The PTU 30 kg has a higher payload capacity (30 kg vs 25 kg), IP66 sealing (vs IP65), built-in Ethernet-only controller (vs separate hard panel with joystick), ±180° azimuth (vs 360° continuous), stationary platform mounting only and an integrated 24-channel slip ring as standard.

The PTU 30 kg is designed for stationary hard platform mounting. A heavy duty tripod is available as an accessory. Pedestal weight is 20 kg exclusive of the interface plate.

IP66, providing complete dust protection and resistance against powerful water jets. Combined with MIL-STD-810F compliance for vibration, bump and shock, it is suited for sustained outdoor deployment.

An integrated 24-channel slip ring provides continuous data link, video link and power supply to the payload during azimuth rotation, eliminating the need for an external slip ring assembly.
