Laser Imaging System

Compact Tripod-Mounted Electro-Optical System for Day and Night Laser-Gated Surveillance at 1,800 Metres

The LIS Laser Imaging System is a compact, lightweight, tripod-mounted electro-optical surveillance system designed and supplied by System Controls for active laser-gated target identification and ranging at distances from 50 metres to 1,800 metres. Operating in both bright daylight and moonless night conditions down to 10-3 to 10-4 lux, the LIS uses an InGaAs FPA sensor with 640 x 512 pixels, motorised optical 4X and digital 4X zoom and GPS-aided target coordinate computation with angular accuracy better than ±8 mrad. Powered by a Li-Ion rechargeable battery for fully standalone field deployment, it records video with target data overlay and stores data to 4 GB inbuilt flash memory.

About the Product

What is the
Laser Imaging System?

The LIS Laser Imaging System is a compact, lightweight electro-optical system designed for active laser-gated surveillance and target ranging in both day and night field conditions. The system is tripod-mounted with a 360-degree azimuth and ±10-degree elevation field of regard. It uses an InGaAs FPA sensor with motorised zoom slaved to the real-time field of view of the imaging camera, with optical 4X motorised zoom and digital 4X for a total zoom capability of 16X. Viewing is through a monocular combined with an SVGA micro display and an external 5 to 6 inch high contrast display with a flap cover when not in use. Video overlay displays day/night mode, zoom value, recording status, target detected indicator and range and coordinates. GPS-aided target coordinate computation provides angular accuracy better than ±8 mrad and GPS accuracy of 10 metres or less. The Li-Ion rechargeable battery powers all active subsystems for a minimum of 1 hour in active surveillance duty cycle.

01

Day and Night Operation to 1,800 Metres

The LIS operates from 50 metres to 1,800 metres in both bright daylight and moonless, highly overcast night conditions down to 10-3 to 10-4 lux. The InGaAs FPA sensor with narrow band interference filters and motorised zoom delivers consistent target imaging performance across the full operational range in the complete range of ambient lighting conditions encountered during field surveillance deployments.

02

Motorised Zoom with Video Overlay

Optical 4X motorised zoom slaved to the real-time camera FOV, combined with digital 4X, provides up to 16X total magnification. Video overlay displays day/night mode, zoom value, recording status, target detected indicator and range and coordinate data simultaneously, giving field operators a complete operational picture on the monocular, SVGA micro display and external 5 to 6 inch display in a single view.

03

GPS-Aided Target Coordinate Computation

The LIS computes target coordinates with angular accuracy better than ±8 mrad and GPS accuracy of 10 metres or less, providing field operators with actionable location data for identified targets directly from the handheld system. Bore sight accuracy is maintained at not worse than 0.1 mrad across the full zoom range, ensuring coordinate accuracy is preserved from minimum to maximum zoom.

04

Compact and Portable Tripod-Mounted System

At 12 kg and 550 x 300 x 200 mm, the LIS is a compact, man-portable field surveillance system deployable on any standard tripod. The 360-degree azimuth and ±10-degree elevation field of regard on the tripod mount provides comprehensive area coverage for perimeter surveillance, target identification and range-finding operations across a wide range of ground-based defence deployment scenarios.
