The System Controls Collaborative Robot (COBOT) is a standalone 4-axis robot designed to safely operate alongside humans in a shared workspace for quality inspection, assembly and testing applications. With a maximum reach of 550mm, 3 kg wrist payload including gripper, Harmonic Drive precision gear on the base axis and Ethernet TCP/IP interface, the COBOT delivers ±0.5mm repeatability with trapezoidal and S-curve motion profiles. Each axis operates independently or in combined linear interpolation mode via GUI, supporting position, velocity and 2/3 axis interpolation control modes across an operating temperature range of -10°C to +55°C.

What is the Collaborative Robot?

The Collaborative Robot (COBOT) is a standalone system that works in a specified workspace with human interaction. It has four axes: base, shoulder, elbow and wrist, all controlled by a closed loop control system. The base axis is coupled to a precision Harmonic Drive gear with encoder, limit switches, motor and brake to achieve controlled velocity and position. Maximum reach is 550mm with 4 degrees of freedom and a payload capacity of 3 kg at the wrist axis including gripper. Each axis works independently to reach a target position and also in combined interpolation mode based on user GUI input, with trapezoidal and S-curve motion profiles and position, velocity and linear interpolation control modes available. Ethernet TCP/IP communication enables integration with plant control and quality management systems.

Safe Human-Robot Shared Workspace Operation

The COBOT is specifically designed to operate safely alongside humans in a shared workspace without requiring safety barriers or isolation caging, enabling human-robot collaborative workflows for quality inspection, assembly verification and testing operations. The controlled, predictable motion profiles and closed loop control across all four axes ensure safe, reliable operation in direct proximity to human operators.

Independent and Interpolated Axis Operation

Each axis works independently to reach a target position or in combined interpolation mode based on user GUI input, with position mode, velocity mode and 2/3 axis linear interpolation available. Trapezoidal and S-curve motion profiles ensure smooth, controlled movements throughout all operation modes, providing the predictable, gentle motion behaviour required for safe human-robot co-operation.

Harmonic Drive Precision on Base Axis

The base rotational axis is coupled to a precision Harmonic Drive gear with encoder, limit switches, motor and brake, providing the zero backlash, high torque, compact drive mechanism that delivers the ±0.5mm repeatability demanded by quality inspection and precision assembly applications. Harmonic Drive technology ensures consistent, repeatable positioning across the full ±170° base rotation range throughout the operational life of the system.

Full Wrist Rotation with 120 deg/sec Speed

The wrist axis covers ±360° continuous rotation at 120 deg/sec, the fastest axis in the COBOT range, enabling rapid tool orientation changes and continuous wrist rotation for complex assembly, dispensing and inspection paths. Combined with the ±135° elbow and ±90° shoulder ranges, the COBOT provides comprehensive workspace coverage for the full range of human-collaborative manufacturing and inspection tasks.
